A s nineteen ninety-nine comes to a weary end a clutch of wines celebrating the fact have been released onto an indifferent market. Champagne started first with special 2000 cuvees, but others soon joined the bandwagon. Enjoy the following....

St Columba's College France
Part of the fund raising effort for a sixth form building at St Columba's College in St Albans, Herts, England. They also have a red Cotes-du-Rhone. This is a pleasant enough Chardonnay from d'Oc.
The label seems to be produced by an inkjet printer.
The Official Greenwich Millennium Wine Bordeaux
This ordinary claret (red Bordeaux) carries an impressive title.It is bottled for, and available at the Greenwich Observatory in London. Longtitude is measured from Greenwich, hence GMT - Greenwich Mean Time, often known now as UTC - Universal Time Co-ordinate, or Zulu time.

Oh the vintage? Well the race is on for which wine will be the first to bear a vintage 2000, but this respectable claret is from the 1997 vintage.

The back label reads in part "The kind of easy drinking relaxed drinking style you need to see the century out. Young (from this years harvest) but very smooth with just the right amount of ripe juicy fruit to slip down effortlessly as the last few minutes tick by.
Keeping - don't even think about it. This is wine of 1999 for 1999. Start the party season as soon as possible by making the most of this wine until the next century. Oh, if you must! This wine will keep a further three months, but who wants to be seen with last years model? This wine has style by the bucket load.
